Keynote Speaker

     Helen C. Frederick is the founder and Artistic Director of Pyramid Atlantic, a Center for Collaborative Projects in Printmaking, Hand Papermaking, Digital Media and the Art of the Book. She serves as Professor and Coordinator of Printmaking, Department of Art and Visual Information Technology, George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia. Her BFA and MFA degrees are from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is the recipient of the Governor’s Award for Excellence and Leadership in the Arts in Maryland in 2000. Her solo exhibitions include The View Is Daunting, 2002, University of Athens, Georgia; Scieran: Suspension at the Southwest Craft Center, San Antonio, Texas, 2001; Revealing Conditions at the Art Center, South Florida, 2001, and Under Construction: Relay, Rewind, Record at Dieu Donne Gallery, New York, 1996. Frederick’s work is included in the Whitney Museum of Art, New York, National Gallery of Art, Library of Congress and National Museum of American Art, Washington, DC, and numerous collections throughout the world. With the Pyramid Atlantic Board of Directors, Frederick developed an anchor for the visual arts by opening the Pyramid Atlantic Center in 2003 in the downtown Silver Spring, MD Arts and Entertainment District. In her role as director of a 25 year old not-for-profit and educator at she develops professional teacher training programs; graduate and undergraduate interdisciplinary studies; K-12 visual literacy projects, and high school mentoring programs; coordinates international al artist residency programs and joint venture print and book publications; and designs inter-disciplinary cultural exchange programs with international agencies and Maryland state partners.
