Youth Art Month sponsored by THE COUNCIL FOR ART EDUCATION, INC. is an annual observance each March to emphasize the value of art education for all children and to encourage support for quality school art programs.

In celebration of Youth Art Month MAEA and Sargent Art are sponsoring the state Youth ART Month Flag Competition for students within the state of Maryland in conjunction with the National Youth Art Month Flag Design Contest and Exhibit.  Our goal is to help promote the visual arts in our national and state.  Schools throughout the U.S. are holding flag design competitions. 

Maryland Art Education Association will select a design to represent the state of Maryland, which will be made into a flag and flown in Washington, D.C. during March.  These students and their teachers will be recognized during Youth Art Month. In addition to the Flag competition other activities that have been successful in promoting quality art education during March Youth Art Month includes:

• Art exhibits in public libraries and local business locations
• YAM Buttons and ribbons
• Arts integration days at school
• Parent-child workshops
• Art field trips
• Art exchanges across counties, states or countries
• Talks by guest artists, designers and architects
• Public and school announcements
